This cutting-edge salon, “The 5 five” is home to Simpson Bay’s top stylists, who know how to bring out the best in your tresses.
With years of international training, experience, and a long history in hair salons, Karyn, Halil, and Stephan are true artists. They have a keen appreciation for both timeless elegance and up-to-the-minute trends.
Most products are all-natural, and little to no chemicals are used anywhere near your precious hair. The Five caters to regular clients and celebrates special styling events like bridal parties, fashion shows, birthday events, or any other reason you want to get a group together to put your best locks forward.
Halil Akyurt was part of the Xperts Hair Salon team for many years here in St. Maarten. Where Karyn Delapre worked at a salon for many years and thought it was time to start her own company. The two famous hairdresser decided to shake hands and create this top-notch salon in SXM.
Together they stepped up to fulfill their dream and opened a new salon concept, The Five. This was originally to honor Halil’s family of five creative and talented brothers, originally from Turkey. Which own hair salons in various parts of the world. Now it stands for the 5 professionals working at the salon.
Because of the success, Stephan Cornu with also years of experience running his own salon is side by side with Karyn and Halil.
What makes this hair salon a unique experience?
Soon you walk into the salon; the assisting staff welcomes you while the stylists practice their craft or interact with the loyal customers. Next, you are seated in the lounge and offered a coffee, tea, or water to enjoy during the wait. Once ready, you are guided to the massage chairs, where they wash your hair, treat it with minty foam, and give you a head massage. Meanwhile, the chair massages your back for the ultimate relaxing experience.
After about 5 minutes, your stylist of choice asks you to take a seat in the salon chair; this is where the magic happens.

Their professional team will make your hands and feet feel soft while also providing relaxation. I am so self-conscious of my hair since its very fine, and I knew it was not going to be easy, but I was absolutely ecstatic with how it came out and looked throughout the night! Stefan is an excellent and experienced hairdresser, who was able to figure out perfect match for my hair color, originally done in Canada.
