Lowlands | Sint Maarten
“Don’t let the name fool you!”
This is the epitome of the lifestyles of the rich and famous area. The Lowlands is located just past the border on the French part of the island. It is mainly split into two dynamic areas. Mont Rouge, which is on the lagoon side, here the Villas nestled in above the Caribbean Sea offer views of sunsets over the lagoon on one side and the other an ocean view clear across the channel to Anguilla.
The second area is Terres Basses. This peninsula is sprinkled with Luxurious Villas and affluent homes. The list of famous owners is endless. The entire area is flanked by two of the longest stretches of beach. Plum Bay / Baie Aux Prunes and Long Bay / Baie Longue.
Plum Bay is a great place to relax. Nice white sand, good for swimming and snorkeling. Long Bay is beautiful, about a mile and a half long. It is sparsely populated, so you really have a “the beach is all for me experience”.
Pro tip if you’re going for the day bring along all the things you want to use such as chairs and umbrellas as the beaches are not commercialized.
Another notable beach not to miss is Baie Rouge. The steps down to the beach offer an instagramable picture. Beyond that this is another excellent place to snorkel as the beach is close to the rocks, so the aquatic under water scene is especially beautiful.
All in all, this is a peaceful area, so if you’re looking for a little more action, Cupecoy and Maho are a short drive away.
